Be a HIP provider yourself!
Over 2.5 million properties a year will need a HIP
Since the full rollout of Home Information Packs (HIPs) on December 14th 2007, every home that is put on the market for sale in England and Wales now requires a HIP. The Pack includes an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) containing advice on how to cut carbon emissions and fuel bills. Also included are documents such as a sale statement, searches and evidence of title.
It is estimated that over 2.5 million homes per year will require a HIP, plus the anticipated rollout of Energy Performance Certificates for all rental and commercial properties in 2008 will grow the market further.
Why become a HIP provider?
- Work in a new and developing industry supported by the government
- Work for yourself and dictate your own workload
- Set your own prices and profit margins
- Independence to win business and reap the rewards
- A mass market with over 2.5 million properties per year needing a HIP
- Help the environment by highlighting how to reduce energy consumption

Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) & Home Inspectors
If you are already a fully qualified DEA, you will be aware that an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is only one element included within a HIP.
Rather than simply joining an oversubscribed bank of DEAs and waiting for work to be forwarded to you from HIP providers, why not take control and produce the full pack yourself?
Joining the Prontohips Network and becoming a HIP provider empowers you to win your own business direct from estate agents and solicitors, increases your earning potential and provides continuity of work.
The Prontohips system allows you to appoint yourself as the DEA for the EPC component. The remaining components are sourced automatically from our appointed list of suppliers, which enables you to benefit from the full profit of the HIP for the same level of work as producing an EPC!

*DEAs are required to provide their own professional indemnity insurance for the EPC component of the pack.

Generating business
1 estate agent = 10 HIPs per week
The average estate agency brings around 10 new houses onto the market per week. All these properties require a HIP by law.
Prontohips have been working with estate agents and solicitors to provide a simple, flexible and efficient solution for the provision of Home Information Packs that fits in comfortably with their existing business practices. This allows them to get on with what they do best (i.e. selling houses and conveyancing!) with minimum disruption. It also allows them the potential to generate extra revenue, should they wish to add their own margin.
Basically, as a Prontohips Network Provider, the solution you will be able to offer costs them nothing, has zero risk associated, saves them time, and offers them the opportunity to increase their revenue. A true win-win situation for you and the estate agent / solicitor! Prontohips will provide you with marketing materials and training to help you get these clients onboard.
As a HIP provider you will also be able to target home sellers directly via your own local press advertising, canvassing and internet advertising. Leads generated by the Prontohips website (www.prontohips.co.uk) and via our national 0845 order number will also be forwarded to the closest Prontohips Network Provider.

In January 2007 I was looking for a new career and wanted to become a HIP provider as I thought this would be a great new industry to get into. I studied to become a Domestic Energy Assessor through a DEA training provider, but found that it was difficult to obtain a steady flow of work because I couldn’t offer clients a full service. Because I could only supply the energy performance certificate element of the HIP I found it difficult to win business with estate agents or direct with home sellers, because they needed a completed home information pack. I also couldn’t offer deferred payment, which I found was a very important factor for a lot of home sellers who wanted to pay for their home information pack out of their sales proceeds.
I came across Prontohips via a referral from a friend at a HIP training provider. For a now almost insignificant fee, they set me up and provided training on how to use the software so that I could supply complete HIPs. Within a couple of days I’d got my first estate agency client onboard and since then I’ve never looked back. I’d definitely recommend Prontohips to other trained DEAs who are struggling to win decent levels of business. James Dutton, Prontohips Network Provider (North West)

I came across Prontohips when searching on the internet about how to become a hip provider. There were a number of hip training providers out there and businesses offering DEA training. However, after reading through posts on a number of Home Information Pack forums, it was evident that in order to win business I would need to be able to offer more than just the energy performance certificate.
After speaking to Andrew at Prontohips, I decided to join the Prontohips network. I was equipped with the background knowledge and tools I required to produce hips and win business. I have since also started training to become a DEA which will allow me to increase my income further. Harry Cade, Prontohips Network Provider (Midlands)
